New York State Fire Academy to Receive New KME Training Pumper

December 30, 2010

KME and Saulsbury Davis Companies have been awarded the contract for the New York State Academy of Fire Sciences new training pumper.  The NYS Fire Academy is located in Montour Falls, NY.

The new KME Panther II custom pumper will include many features that are customized for training operations of new fire fighters and continuing education for veteran fire fighters. The unit has a number of duplicated features to allow firefighters to train and operate systems of multiple designs that they could encounter on varying apparatus across the state. Examples of this include electric and air primers, pump pressure governor and a traditional relief valve system, electronic engine and pump monitoring and traditional gauge systems, as well as a bypass pump cooler and a thermal relief cooler.

In addition to duplicated systems and components, the apparatus has also been designed specifically for high volume training and safety. The unit will have features such as low mount crosslays that can be easily pulled from the ground position at 70” off ground and a “low hose bed” design that keeps hose loads at 54” off the ground with no need to climb on top of apparatus to deploy hose. There are also low mounted suction hoses and slide in ground ladders that can be deployed with no climbing or “lifting overhead”.

Other features include a KME 6 person custom raised roof cab, Cummins ISL 425hp engine, Jacobs engine brake, 1500 gpm two stage pump, 4 low mounted crosslays, dual rear hose bed preconnects, telescoping deck gun, enclosed ground ladders, stainless steel body, low mounted FDNY style hose bed, 750 gallon “bussle” style tank, LED style scene and warning lights and extensive storage compartments.

According to Phil Gerace, KME Director of Sales and Marketing, “KME is proud to be a supplier to the NYS Academy and looks forward to supporting them and the thousands of students trained as first responders by the State each year. Providing modern, safe, and affordable apparatus to our nation’s fire departments and their training institutions are hallmarks of KME’s commitment to a better fire service.”
